Hi.

Brunch at Duck Duck Bruce

Since winter is officially porridge season, I was recently on the hunt for a decadent porridge dish to try out, which is how I come across Duck Duck Bruce, a spot a hadn’t been to in quite a long time. They have one of those menus where everything sounds amazing, and Trick or Treat Yo’self porridge was exactly what I was looking for: Roasted pumpkin & pecan multigrain porridge, cinnamon streusel, salted butterscotch, nutmeg & vanilla whipped soured cream, gingerbread.

When we arrived there was quite a line of people waiting for tables, but the staff were so good at managing the line and keeping people informed of the wait time that we were happy to wait. This is so important for me, especially if I’ve dragged friends out with me, the last thing we want to be doing on a Sunday morning is competing with other diners for a table. The great service continued when it suddenly started raining and they quickly managed to move us and several other tables indoors, despite the fact that tables were so scarce.

Everyone’s food and coffee was delicious. My porridge was well balanced and not too sweet with some surprising flavours (vanilla sour cream?). The highlight dish was my husband’s choice “Orange is the new stack”: the fluffiest vanilla pancakes topped with burnt orange curd, toasted almonds, orange & rosemary syrup, poppyseed cheesecake and gingerbread crumb. Not too heavy and not too sweet, things that many pancake dishes are guilty of.

We were all very happy with the food and service at Duck Duck Bruce and it’s definitely somewhere we will revisit regularly. With so many options available in Fremantle these guys still manage to stand out.
